Introduction
Programmed to Speak is a pseudo-broadcast sound installation composed of three transmitters broadcasting on the same frequency. The work questions how voices are regulated, formatted, and disciplined in mainstream media and cultural environments. It invites the audience to navigate a shifting sonic field where signals collide and interfere in real time, and to contribute their own voices to the system.
The space is structured through repetition, interruption, and role-play. Within this chaotic sonic environment, even moments of self-expression may feel filtered, scheduled, or overwritten, which raises questions about the possibility of a truly free voice.
Broadcasters
The radio programmes within the installation are broadcast by Chenyu Zhang, Xinyao Shen and Genyuan Cao.
